We were delighted to find out that The Devils Churn Campfire Salted Carmel Sauce, produced by our farm shop won GOLD at the Blas na hEireann Irish Food awards!
Now in their 15th year, Blas na hÉireann, The Irish Food Awards is the biggest competition for quality Irish produce on the island of Ireland. Products from every county on Ireland were entered into the competition to win Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards in a broad range of food and drink categories. We entered the Sweet Pantry, sweet sauce category with our Devils Churn Campfire Salted Caramel Sauce. A Rich, luxurious and irresistibly indulgent caramel sauce salted with North Coast Smokehouse Beechwood Smoked Salt to give that hint of depth and smokiness with the salted sweetness! - All profits from its sale are reinvested into supporting artisans through the delivery of Naturally North Coast & Glens Artisan Markets.
The Blas awards are the biggest blind tasting of produce in the country, and the criteria on which the product is judged as well as the judging system itself, which was developed by Blas na hÉireann with the Food Science Dept of UCC, is now recognised as an international industry standard.
Research has shown that the Blas accreditation has the highest recognition amongst Irish consumers and using the award logo on packs encourages shoppers to buy these products. It is their guarantee of a top quality Irish product.
Blas na hÉreann was founded so that quality benchmarks could be established for Irish produce on a level playing field.
This award is the Oscar of food awards on the Island of Ireland, we knew our sauce was good! but to win Gold was beyond any of our expectations.
